Cylinder Stack
4’ x 4’ x 4’
painted, welded steel screen, stainless cable
During a show at the Chesterwood Museum in Stockbridge MA, the piece was suspended to make use of the environmental conditions of time, space, and weather. Even the slighted breeze would trigger subtle movements. The sculpture consisted of four layered sections, each consisting of four cylinders. These individual layers would change positions in equal time frames during the course of the exhibit.
At the beginning, the combined cylinders were hung horizontally, slightly suspended off the ground. The first layer was seperated and suspended high in the trees. During the next four equal time frames of the exhibit, the increasingly combined layers were lowered, to where they would eventually meet again. During the last stage, the peice was united - now stacked vertically.
Because of its modular design, the piece has evolved over time, transforming into new sculptures.
